Case against Pondy minister for harassing wife
Puducherry, Oct 31(UNI) Police today registered a case against Puducherry Welfare Minister P Angalan for harassing his second wife Kavi Priya.
Talking to newspersons here, Inspector General of Police Kishan Kumar said a case has been registered under section 498 (A) IPC (harassement).
He said as it was a family matter, the police thought of some reconciliation and hence delayed registering a case.
He said preliminary investigation had been started and as per procedure, if the police want to arrest the minister prior intimation will be given to the government.
Asked why the case was not registered under the domestic violence Act, Mr Kumar detailed the clauses of the law and said that a production officer has to be appointed by the government. This was yet to be done here.
It may be noted that Kavi Priya, the second wife of Angalan was allegedly tortured by family members of the minister and sought protection. She lodged complaints with the Lt Governor, CM, and all top police officals and recently the, All India Democratic Women's Association had taken up her issue.
