Lucknow, Oct 31 (UNI) Close on heels of a minister in the Mulayam Singh Yadav-led Uttar Pradesh government tendering his resignation, two MPs and three MLAs of the ruling Samajwadi Party today sent their resignation letters to the Chief Minister alleging atrocity on minorities in Muzaffarnagar district in first phase of civic polls on October 28.

The five SP leaders who resigned are Lok Sabha member Munnawar Hussan, Rajya Sabha member Amir Alam, MLAs Chittaranjan Swaroop, Uma Kiran and Kiranpal Kashyap.

These leaders have expressed concern over the role of Muzaffarnagar district administration during the poll of the nagar palika parishad, in which one person identified as Muzaffar Rana was killed in violence.

On Sunday, minister of state for trade taxes Sanjay Garg had tendered his resignation from the post, following ''harassment'' of minorities during the poll in Saharanpur.

However, later on pursuance of the Chief Minister, Garg had withdrawn his resignation.
