Van runs over students, one dead, five injured

Hisar, Oct 30 (UNI) A boy was killed and five injured, three of them seriously, when a speeding pick up van ran over six students early this morning at National Highway-10 near village Dhana Kalan in Hisar district of Haryana.

There Students were walking along the highway when the van hit them and sped away. An eighth class student Baljeet (15) died on the spot while Amarjit (12), Vikas (12), Bunty (12), Kuldeep (12) and Ashu (15) were badly injured, reports received here said.

The boys were rushed to the General hospital at Hansi, where the condition of three of them was stated to be serious.

Some of the villagers tried to chase the van but the driver succeeded in escaping. The villagers however, noted the number of the van and gave it to police which has begun a hunt for the vehicle and the absconding driver.

The deceased student's body has been handed over to the parents after a post mortem, reports said.
