Unrest at Assembly affects Metro services
New Delhi, Oct 30 (UNI) Metro train services were suspended for more than six hours between Kashmere Gate and Vishwa Vidyalaya today due to demonstration around the state Assembly complex by Delhi BJP workers and city traders.
Police advised Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to suspend its services between the two stations on the Central Secretariat-Vishwa Vidyalaya line, as a result 4 km underground stretch, with three stations -- Civil Lines, Vidhan Sabha and Vishwa Vidyalaya -- was closed from 0900 hrs to 1530 hrs.
Police had made tight security arrangements around the Assembly, which started its Ninth session today, in view of the proposed 'Gherao' of the Assembly by BJP MLAs and workers, and traders to protest against the sealing drive in the capital.
It had deployed police personnel in huge numbers and set up barricades on all roads leading to the Assembly. It diverted traffic going towards it. The Kashmere Gate-Vishwa Vidyalaya section of the metro line was closed as a precautionary measure as it also had a station (Vidhan Sabha) leading to the Assembly.
