Steering committee for Nalanda and Bhagalpur byelections
Patna, Oct 30 (UNI) Bihar Pradesh Congress chief Sadanand Singh has constituted two separate steering-cum-campaign committees for November six byelections to Nalanda and Bhagalpur Lok Sabha seats.
Chief spokesman of the Congress Kripanath Pathak said here today that Mr Singh had constituted the committees in consultation with general secretary of the All India Congress Committee(AICC) Digvijay Singh, also in-charge of Bihar affairs.
Mr Singh would be the convenor of the said committees, while leader of the Congress Legislative party in Bihar Assembly Ashok Ram would be the co-convenor, he added.
Senior party leaders and Union Ministers Meira Kumar and Shakeel Ahmad were among those nominated as members of steering committees, he informed.
Mr Pathak said the Congress had decided to support the CPI candidate in Nalanda because the party felt that Nalanda is traditionally the strong base of the CPI and it was in good position to defeat the NDA candidate.
Similarly the party had put its weight behind the CPI(M) candidate Subodh Rai in Bhagalpur as he came second during the last Lok Sabha election.
