State moots Kalyan airport plan to Centre
Mumbai, Oct 30 (UNI) The Maharashtra Government has urged the Civil Aviation Ministry to explore the possibilities of setting up an airport at Kalyan, in neighbouring Thane district, where an airstrip had existed even during the Second World War.
That apart, almost 1500 acres of land is available in Kalyan for the purpose, the State Government has told the Centre.
Talking to UNI, State secretary and incharge of special projects Sanjay Ubale said a letter with the preliminary request had been sent to the civil aviation Ministry. '' It is not a proposal but a thought which has been placed before the c entre,'' Mr Ubale clarified.
Mumbai already has an international and domestic airport.
