Serbia adopts first post-Milosevic constitution
BELGRADE, Oct 29 (reuters) Serbian voters approved the country's first constitution of the post-Milosevic era in a referendum today, according to preliminary results from the respected national polling organisation CESID.
The pollsters said 51.6 percent of the electorate of 6.6 million voted in favour of the constitution, a document of 206 articles and a preamble reaffirming Serbian sovereignty over the breakaway province of Kosovo.
Total turnout in the two-day referendum was 53.5 percent, thanks to a last-minute surge to the polls which saved the measure from failing due to insufficient turnout.
