RJD demands high level probe into Durgawati project

Patna, Oct 30(UNI) The RJD today accused the NDA government of Bihar of being ''anti-development'' and demanded a high level probe into the issue of Durgawati Dam Project.

Senior party leader and former minister Ramchandra Purvey told newspersons here the government had hatched a ''high-level conspiracy'' to ''implicate'' former Water Resources Minister Jagadanand Singh and three other officers with an aim to wind up the project and to shield those who had actually violated the Wild Life act.

Mr Purvey raised doubts over the former forest conservator and alleged that the officer, who was a witness to the case, was playing a dubious role. He said the case was initiated after some of the officers of the project sent a fabricated map to the centre. In the concocted map, the then Principal Chief Forest Conservator S K Sharma in 2005 had impressed upon the centre that the project was being constructed setting aside the map prepared in 1975.

Later in the departmental meeting held on October 10 this year Mr Sharma informed the original copy of the map was missing from the department. He said the incident indicated some officers of the department who had vested interests were trying to sabotage the project and the government too was all set to protect such elements by instituting cases against Mr Jagdanand Singh and the other three officers of the same department.

A high level probe could only expose the real culprits said Mr Purvey.
