Revival of sick industrial units begin in Kerala
Kozhikode, Oct 30 (UNI) The revival of sick industrial units in Kerala will begin with the reopening of Malabar Spinning and Weeving Mills at Tiruvannur here on November 13, State Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem said today.
All steps for reviving the mill, under the National Textiles Corporation, which was closed for the last two years have been completed, he told reporters here.
He said the revial of Keltron, United Electricals, Kerala Hitech Industries, Telc, Angamaly, Autocast, Kel, Kerala Garments (Kannur), Kerala State Textile Corporation, Sitaram Textiles, Silk, Siramics (Kundara) and Traco Cables would also start this year itself.
The government had also decided to revive the Thiruvanthapuram Spinning Mills at Balaramapuram, which was closed at the instance of the Enterprises Reforms Committee during the previous United Democratic Front (UDF) administration, he said.
The government had directed Keltron to absorb 29 employess of the Keltron Counters in the parent company, the minister said.
He said the government would constitute a public limited company soon to study ways and means for infrastructure development in the state.
Similar to that of Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL), the new outfit would seek investment from Non Resident Keralites, he announced.
He said the government had also decided to appoint technocrats and management at the helm of Public Sector Units as part of the plan for overall development of the state.
A selection board for this purpose had already been constituted and application for appointment as chief executive in chemical and electrical sectors had been called for, he said.
Mr Kareem said a monitoring cell had been formed in his office to screen the functioning of public sector units and suggest remedial measures.
