Registration of marriages compulsory in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Oct 30 (UNI) The Chhattisgarh government has decided to make registration of marriages compulsory.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the state Cabinet, presided over by Chief Minister Raman Singh, in the wake of a Supreme Court order on compulsory registration of marriages.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Finance Minister Amar Agrawal said, ''the Cabinet approved the rules of the Chhattisgarh Compulsory Marriage Registration Act, 2006.'' Responding to a question, he said that no community or religion was exempted from such registration.
