'Prince' like incident: Infant girl falls in pit, rescued

Aligarh/Lucknow, Oct 30 (UNI) In an accident reminiscent of the 'Prince' espisode a one-and-a-half-year old girl today fell into a 12-foot pit at Mainthpur village of Aligarh district in Uttar Pradesh this afternoon.

However, she was rescued after four hours by digging a parallel trench with a JVC machine.

On July 21 five-year-old Prince had got trapped in a 55-foot borehole at Haldari village in Kurukshetra (Haryana), before he was rescued by armymen after almost 48 hrs.

In this case, Chanchal had fallen into a pit under Madrak police station area while playing with other children. A 12-foot trench was left to be filled, after a handpump was extricated from the bore, a report from Aligarh said.

Later, senior police officials rushed to the spot even as locals had already started digging a parallel trench to save the child.

The incident occurred around 1500 hrs, while Chanchal was rescued at 1700 hrs.

Since, the village is about 30 kms from the district headquarters it took some time for the police and other officials to reach the spot.
