Prem Sagar Jain shoots himself dead

Chandigarh, Oct 30 (UNI) Former Chandigarh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Prem Sagar Jain allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself at his home here this morning, police sources said.

Mr Jain's body was found lying in his bedroom with a bullet pierced in his head. Prima facie it appears a case of suicide, Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Yadav said.

The sources said Mr Jain fired with a licensed revolver and died instantaneously. His body is being sent for postmortem examination.

The cause of his suicide is being ascertained.

The cremation of Mr Jain will take place in the evening. Several BJP leaders, including party's national Legal Cell Convenor Satya Pal Jain, have expressed shock and mourned the demise of Mr Prem Sagar Jain.

Party flags were lowered at the party office here as a mark of respect to the late leader. Mr Jain had also functioned as President of the Chandigarh unit of Jan Sangh.
