One arrest under Domestice Violence Act
Badwani, MP, Oct 30 (UNI) In one of the first case filed under the Domestic Violence Act in Madhya Pradesh, a young man was arrested on the charge of brutally assaulting his wife suspecting her in fidelity, police said today.
Superintendent of Police Dinesh Chandra Sharma said Basavi village-resident Sunita had lodged a complaint on October 27 that Gangaram had beaten her a day back and was torturing her since the past six months.
Sunita has married Gangaram 12 years back. The couple have three children.
A local court today sent the accused to judicial custody.
Under the Domestic Violence Act brought into force in the country on October 26, the main objective is to provide protection to women and prevent their harassment. The guilty could be sentenced and fined up to Rs 20,000.
