Mysore University awarded A+ grade by NAAC
Mysore, Oct 30 (UNI) The Mysore University has been awarded A+ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), its Vice-Chancellor Prof J Shashidar Prasad has announced.
Participating in a meet-the-press programme organised by the Mysore District Journalists Association here yesterday, he said that in this backdrop, the varsity would approach the University Grants Commission with a proposal seeking Rs 40 crore.
He said the university had carried out an external academic and administrative audit, the first of its kind in the country.
Prof Prasad said that in collaboration with the Institute of Mathematical Sciences of Chennai, the varsity would open a neutrino observatory centre here and set up a laboratory at a cost of Rs 150 crore. A Centre of Ramanujan Mathematical Society would be set up in the university, besides the Jagjivan Ram Research Centre at a cost of Rs 50 lakh. It would also take up construction of international guest house and Patrikha Bhavan in the campus shortly.
He announced that the university would introduce distance education from the next academic year as it had been approved by Chancellor and Governor T N Chaturvedi recently.
The Government had approved the recruitment of 100 teaching staff and the recruitment process would be taken up shortly. A proposal had been submitted to the Eleventh Planning Commission to make the university a Central University in the State, he added.
