MP bypolls: About 50 pc voting at Vidisha, 60 pc at Malehra
Bhopal, Oct 30 (UNI) About 50 per cent of the electorate exercised their franchise today during a bypoll to Madhya Pradesh's prestigious Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency while the corresponding figure was approximately 60 per cent in Malehra assembly constituency.
Barring stray incidents, polling was peaceful. Sources at the Chief Election Officer's workplace said precise official figures would be available only by night as Vidisha constituency is an extensive region.
Bharatiya Janata Party workers clashed with BJS members in Malehra constituency's Shahrora village where Ms Bharti's vehicle was stoned. Timely police intervention brought the situation under control.
The byelection was necessitated following the resignation of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan from Vidisha while Bharatiya Jan Shakti (BJS) founder-president Uma Bharti put in her papers from Malehra.
Counting will take place on November 2 and results will be declared by afternoon. Vidisha's votes will be counted at Vidisha, Sehore and Raisen district headquarters while Malehra's votes will be counted at Chhatarpur district headquarters.
