Kanchi Seer case posted to November 20

Puducherry, Oct 30: Puducherry Principal District and Sessions Judge M Chinna Pandi hearing the Sankararaman murder case in which the Kanchi Acharyas were cited as the prime accused, today posted the case for November 20.

Eight out of the 24 accused including -Jayandra Saraswathi and Vijayendra Saraswathi, failed to turn up before the Court today and seperate petitions citing the reasons for their absence were filed by their counsels.

Mr Chinna Pandi also questioned the absence of the accused Sekhar during the last hearing, who did not file any petition then and it was apprised that he was taken in preventive custody by the police in view of the local body elections in Tamil Nadu.

The Supreme Court had earlier stayed the proceedings in the case on a Special Leave Petition(SLP) filed by the Defence on the continued appearence of the Tamil Nadu Special Public Prosecutor(SPP) in the case in the Union Territory and the SLP is still pending before the Apex Court.
