Srinagar, Oct 30 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government has released an amount of Rs one crore for the project of Charar-e-Sharief shrine which was gutted in early nineties in a fire after night-long gun battle between security forces and militants.

Out of Rs one crores, Rs 50 lakh is earmarked for Khankha, a grand mosque being build adjacent to holy shrine of Sheikh Noor-uddin Wali also known as Nund Reshi.

This was announced by the Minister for Forests, Environment and Housing and Urban Development Qazi Mohammad Afzal during his visit to Charar-e-Sharief today.

The minister was informed that Khankah has 60,000 ft build up area of the project to accommodate 15000 people to offer prayers at a time.

The minister stressed upon the concerned agencies and field staff to work with zeal and dedication and asked them to accelerate the tempo of work so that the ongoing projects and schemes are completed within a stipulated period.

The shrine is visited by lakhs of devotees every year. For the first time a number of devotees from Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) visited the shrine this year.
