ITIs to introduce bamboo-based courses in NE
Aizawl, Oct 30 (UNI) With the aim to tap the bamboo resources of the region, the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the North Eastern states will introduce bamboo-based technology courses.
The courses would be introduced under the National Vocational Training System (NVTS), a project of the Union Labour Ministry with German technical cooperation, the official sources here today informed.
North Eastern Council(NEC) has signed an MoU with a German firm last month to start the courses.
NEC officials also stated that the region's bamboo sector has been in need of international technical expertise to harness full potential of the resources.
Officials said the students of the region would be benefitted from the course. Select institues in the country would implement widespread dissemination of skills among workers in the informal sector.
In the NE region, the Cane and Bamboo Technology Centre (CBTC) has been chosen as implementation partner.
The CBTC, esablished in 2000 as a joint venture of UNDP, UNIDO and Department of Science and Technology, which has been carrying out NEC's mandate of NE Bamboo Mission since 2004.
The NE has the country's two-third bamboo resources and the NEC launched the bamboo mission for development of this sector, the officials pointed out.
