Insurgency-Chhattisgarh-Naxalites

Dantewara, Chhattisgarh, Oct 30 (UNI) Suspected naxalites have set ablaze a conveyor belt of public sector National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) at Bacheli, near here, tonight.

A long stretch of conveyor belt was damaged in the fire, police sources said.

Police did not rule out the possibility of involvement of Communist Party of India (Maoist) cadres in the incident as it took place in an area where naxalite outfits were active.

Maoists had stepped up violence in Bastar region after the local tribal population launched 'Salwa Judum', an anti-naxalite campaign, in South Bastar in June last year.

Meanwhile, two engines and 13 bogies of a goods train derailed near Kamaloor railway station, under Bhansi police station area, on Jagdalpur-Vishakhapattanam railway section.

Police said there were no reports of any casualties in the incident, which took place in the forest area falling under Bhansi police station.

Though investigations were on into the incident, police did not rule out the possibility involvement of naxalites. UNI XC JJ 2222
