Indira Gandhi canal areas observe bandh
Sirganganagar, Oct 30: The Indira Gandhi Canal Project areas in Ganganagar, Hanumangarh and Bikaner district are observing a bandh today in connection with the continuing farmers agitation over irrigation water.
The Kisan Mazdoor Vyapari Sangharsh Samiti has given a call for 'Janta curfew' and have put up several roadblocks in these areas.
In view of the bandh, Rajasthan Roadways have suspended their service.
Private buses are also off the roads.
The mandis in Ganaganagar, Hanumangarh, Lunkaransar, Khajuwala, Kshatargarh, Dantor were closed. The agitators blocked several points on Highway No 15 by cutting and placing trees.
Meanwhile, thousands of farmers are camping in six DD village along with the body of Chanduram, who farmers alleged died after sustaining injuries in police firing.
The village is around 400 metres from Gharsana and is currently under curfew.
The farmers and Chanduram's family are demaning Rs five lakh as compensation and a job for one of the dependants. They have refused to cremate Chanduram's body if their demands are not met.
