Haryana to form Rural Development Authority

Chandigarh, Oct 30 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today announced to set up a Haryana Rural Development Authority on the pattern of Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA).

The proposed body would carve out sectors in the state in those villages having population more than 10,000, Mr Hooda said while addressing Sarpanches, Panches and Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of Panchayat Samitis at his residence here today.

Referring to the decentralisation of power, the Chief Minister said the state government had taken a number of steps to strengthen the Panchayati Raj institutions in the State.

In this direction, honorarium of Rs 1000 per month was given to a sarpanch of every village and the power to keep cash in hand was increased from Rs 5000 to Rs 10,000.

He said the people having more than two children were allowed to contest the election of panch and sarpanch by making amendment in the existing law.

The Chief Minister maintained that the government had taken a number of steps to strengthen the rural infrastructure and for the first time 1000 villages in the State were identified which would be provided Rs 10 lakh additionally to ensure their all round development.

A sum of Rs 40 crore was earmarked for the construction of stadia in the rural areas to boost the sports activities in rural areas.

He said a sum of Rs 60 crore were already released for the repair of schools.
