Govt notification on Chikmagalur dargah quashed

Bangalore, Oct 30 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today quashed the State Government notification, dated May one, 2003, bringing the Sri Guru Dattatreya Bababudan Swamy Dargah in Chikmagalur under the purview of the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Act.

Disposing of a writ petition, filed by some devotees of the dargah challenging the notification, a Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Mr Justice Mohan Shantangoudar quashed the impugned notification in view of the recent judgment of a division bench of the court striking down the new enactment as ''unconstitutional''.

However, the court said all other contentions raised in the writ petition were left open and not dwelt upon as the Act itself was not in force as a result of the judgment.
