Gen unfolds structurally supported plan for industrial sector
Chandigarh, Oct 30 (UNI) Impressing upon the members of the Chandigarh Industry, the need to effectively participate in the policy formulation and implementation process, Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gen S F Rodrigues (retd) today unfolded a structurally supported plan for upgrading the industrial sector.
Gen Rodrigues offered industrialists a partnership and joint venture, for the growth and development of this vital sector of the economy.
He called for the formation of a core group of industrialists and senior officers of the Administration to suggest ways and means to develop and implement progressive programme for diversification of industry and to act as a pivotal organisation for regulating the mechanism and checking the mal-practices in the industrial sector.
Addressing a function at CII Headquarter here today, General Rodrigues said that the Chandigarh Administration has focused on industrial growth by strictly pursuing the provisions in the law and the Constitution, through a totally transparent, responsive and accountable system.
He said that the officers of the Administration have been given clear directions to respond to the changing needs of the industrial sector and to quicken the process of change by implementing schemes in a time bound framework.
He said that a sincere effort has been made to take the industrial process forward through the partnership approach by taking into consideration the problems coming in the way of industrialists to speed the process of industrial activity.
He asked the members of the industry to bring to its notice any inadequacies or problems, to further rationalise the system.
Responding to the points raised by the president of the Chandigarh Industries Associations, General Rodrigues said that the Administration has been exploring all the avenue of making available quality power, at reasonable rates to the Chandigarh Industry from different sources.
He said that as Chandigarh has no source of power generation and is meeting the power needs by purchasing from other states, after examining the feasibility of wind or hydel power, the Administration, as a long term measure, has initiated the process for setting up a 250 MW solar power plant, to generate power for meeting our needs.
He said that they were also exploring the possibility of a tie-up arrangement with Punjab, in installation of power generation project.
