Elaborate security for 2nd phase UP civic polls

Lucknow, Oct 30 (UNI) Elaborate security arrangements have been made for second phase civic polls tomorrow to elect 11 mayors and 900 corporators.

Over 90 million electorate would use their franchise at 9,246 booths to elect mayors and corporators in 11 nagar nigams (municipal corporations) of Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Aligarh, Allahabad, Meerut, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Jhansi and Moradabad.

The only remaining nagar nigam of Ghaziabad would go to the polls on November 3 in the third phase, State Election Commissioner Aparmita Prasad Singh told UNI here today.

Polling in nagar palika parishads (municipalities) in 14 districts of four divisions of Azamgarh, Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Mirzapur in eastern UP would be held alongwith second phase tomorrow. Earlier, it was postponed on October 28 due to 'Chhat' festival.

Election in last phase for the nagar panchayat (town area) would be held on November 3. Counting of votes for all phases would be taken up on November 6.
