Dharam seeks separate corporation for irrigation projects
Bangalore, Oct 30 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly N Dharam Singh today demanded that the State Government set up a separate corporation for maintenance of irrigation projects in the State.
Talking to reporters here, he said he had written a letter to the Chief Minister in this regard.
Reffering to the Maski Nala near Raichur district and the problems being faced by farmers owing to its frequent breaching, he said during his tenure as Chief Minister, he had sanctioned sufficient funds for the Nala and appointed the Chinwal Committee to study the frequent breaching.
Mr Singh said the five member-committee had submitted its report to the Government in February, recommending funds of Rs 841 crore for phase-wise maintenance.
The State Government should immediately release funds for the upkeep of the nala, he said, adding that if delayed, the farmers would be affected badly as they depend on it for irrigation.
