CVC concerned over delays in filling CVO posts

New Delhi, Oct 30 (UNI) The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has expressed ''deep concern'' over the delay in filling the posts of Chief Vigilance Officers (CVOs) in key organisations including GAIL, Kolkota Port Trust, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust and Chennai Port Trust.

''The government is being regularly reminded,'' the CVC said in a statement.

The Commission said that during September, it had advised the authorities to launch prosecution against seven officers-- three from the MCD, and one each from the Airports Authority of India, Ministry of Personnel, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Home.

The Commission also advised initiation of major penalty proceedings in 112 cases, on the basis of reports submitted by the CBI and the CVOs. These officers included 18 from the Central Board of Excise and Customs, 14 from the MCD and seven from the DDA.

On the basis of inquiry reports submitted by the commissioners for departmental inquiries, the Commission also advised imposition of major penalty against 57 officers including 14 from the BSNL.

On the Commission's advise tendered in earlier months, suitable major penalty was imposed on 68 officers including 19 from public sector banks, 14 from the Railways and 11 from the Central Board of Excise and Customs.

The Commission, however, observed that during September' the penalty imposed by the MTNL and the Department of Telecom against two officers was in deviation from its advice.

During the month, the CVC disposed of 395 cases and its investigations resulted in recoveries of Rs 34 lakh, the statement added.
