Kolkata, Oct 30 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today said that necessary steps had been taken on the Indo-Bangla border areas following political instability in Bangladesh.
''Required measures have been taken on the Indo-Bangladesh borders and secretary-level talks initiated by the Centre,'' Mr Bhattacharjee told reporters here.
He, however, refused to comment on whether the government was apprehending largescale infiltration from across the border in the wake of the turmoil in the neighbouring country.
''We are quite aware of the situation and have taken all neccesary steps in this regard,'' the chief minister said.
Meanwhile, state Home rpt Home Secretary Prasad Ranjan Roy said the BSF and other official agencies had been put on higher alert for the last three days on the entire stretch of the Indo-Bangla border in the state.
