Congress demands Rs 5 lakh compensation
Ranchi, Oct 30 (UNI) The Congress in Jharkhand today demanded a compensation of Rs 5 lakh and a government job to the next of kin of each of the seven youths who drowned in the Subernarekha during Chhat Puja in Jamshedpur yesterday.
Party state president Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu said the incident occurred due to lack of proper security arrangements at the ghats and demanded an inquiry into the incident.
Mr Balmuchu said stern action should be taken against the guilty.
All the seven youths had gone to bathe in Subernarekha river before offering prayers to the Sun God on the eve of Chhat, when they fell into quicksand and drowned.
Last night, Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda accompanied by his associate Dulal Bhuniya and Jamshedpur MP Sunil Mahto met the bereaved family members and announced Rs one lakh as compensation to the deceased family.
