Chemists to open shops from tomorrow

New Delhi, Oct 30 (UNI) Chemists in the capital have decided to open shops from tomorrow after participating in the Delhi Bandh today.

In view of the inconvenience caused to the public due to chemists being closed today and in larger public interest, it had been decided to open shops from tomorrow, Retailers and Distributors Chemists Association President Sandeep Nangia told UNI.

There was never any problem pertaining to retail chemists shops located in residential areas and only distributors/wholesalers were facing problem of sealing. But without the distributors/wholesalers the retailers could not function so they too joined the strike.

Now the government had given an oral assurance to look into the issue, hence the decision, he said.

Besides, chemists could ill-afford a 72-hour closure due of medicines they sell having short expiry dates, he added.

However, the association still morally supported the cause of the striking traders, he further said.

Mr Nangia denied that the decision had anything to do with Delhi Health Minister Yoganand Shastri reportedly saying that he may consider imposing Essential Services Maintenance Act to get the chemists to open their shops.
