Centre sanctions highways repair works in Tamil Nadu

New Delhi, Oct 30 (UNI) The Centre has approved highway repair works in Tamil Nadu between Thirumayam and Nemathanapatti in Pudukottai District on NH-210, leading to Rameswaram, a famous pilgrim centre.

The work, to be carried out at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.92 crore, was approved by Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Minister T.R. Baalu.

NH-210, which connects Trichy and Ramanathapuram via Pudukkottai, Karaikkudi and Devakottai, is an important National Highway in Tamil Nadu. It connects the important district headquarters, marketing places and towns, and leads to Rameswaram.

This stretch was badly damaged by floods in 2005. Hence, it was considered necessary to strengthen the pavement of bituminous surface, a ministry official said today.
