Celebrities join Carter in building homes for needy
Patan, Maharashtra, Oct 30 (UNI) With the five-day Jimmy Carter Work Project (JCWP) beginning here today, many film and sports personalities have come forward to be volunteers of the international non-government organisation Habitat for Humanity (HFH).
Eminent chat show host and actor Pooja Bedi who is also a Habitat Volunteer, told UNI that she was satisfied and happy to be a part of the JCWP at Patan, near Maharashtra's popular hill station Lonavala.
''I was also involved with the Mahad Project as a Habitat volunteer and is glad to see such a huge project being executed with precision,'' she added.
She also pointed out that domestic organisations and groups should emulate one or two good things of management of projects, at least on a small scale, the way in which JCWP was being executed.
Renowned theatre personality Dolly Thakore said, ''I am overwhelmed by the discipline, orderliness and excellence, with which the volunteers and HFH is executing the entire project.'' She added millions of people in the country were deprived of proper housing, education and health. It is time for Indians to come forward as a community and entity to combat the menace of social evils by bridging their narrow-mindedness and differences.
Earlier, Australian cricketer Steve Waugh, joined the team of European volunteers and assisted in the construction of homes as large number of his fans gathered to get a glimpse of their idol.
Throughout his stay Waugh avoided the media refusing to make any comments.
Hollywood actor Brad Pitt, too, stayed away from mediapersons during his stay at the site.
In addition, large number of students from nearby business schools and event management students from Mumbai were also present in full gear, discharging various roles.
