By-poll begins amid tight security in Mizoram
Aizawl, Oct 30 (UNI) By-elections to Tlungvel and Chawngte assembly constituencies in Mizoram began peacefully today amid tight security, official sources said.
As reports received here so far 40 per cent voters turned out in first three hours since 0700 hours.
Election department sources said that no untoward incident had been reported so far from any booths. They said the voting rate was comparativly high to these constituencies this time.
Ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), Congress candidate and one independent contestant are in the fray for Chakma-dominated Chawngte constituency while Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP), MNF and Congress candidates are in the fight for for Tlungvel segment.
Both the seats fell vacant after death to MNF legislators.
