Bining Lyngkhoi tops South-Asia category in Nairobi
New Delhi, Oct 30 (UNI) India got off to a good start in the first leg of the 1.5 million dollar ''Standard Chartered Greatest Race on Earth 2006-07'' series at Nairobi where young armyman Bining Lyngkhoi clocked 2:25:24 hr. to top the South Asia challenge category.
The Indian braved the exhausting 1600ft altitude and thin air at Nairobi race course and clocked 2:25:24 hr.
More than 15000 amateur and professional athletes took part in different categories of 2006 Nairobi International Marathon in Nairobi yesterday.
The Greatest Race on Earth is a challenging relay race across four of the established marathons in Nairobi, Singapore, Mumbai and Hong Kong. The four marathons that make up The Greatest Race represent some of the toughest running conditions in the world. The second of the race in Singapore is dubbed the ''Island Race'', which is scheduled on December 3 where India's Ajit Singh will take on strong sea winds of coastal route.
India is the reigning South Asia champion and finished in top five in the previous two occasions, according to information received here today.
