VP, Bardhan give ''political tsunami'' call against Mulayam
Varanasi, Oct 29 (UNI) Former Prime Minister V P Singh and CPI national general secretary A B Bardhan today gave a call to trigger a ''political tsunami to dethrone'' the anti-farmer Mulayam Singh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh.
Addressing a rally of farmers against the planned hi-tech city on 2,200 acres of land in 11 villages on the outskirts of the city, Mr Singh, also the Jan Morcha convenor said ''if the UP government failed to reverse its stand of acquiring fertile land of 11 villages, the farmers will join hands with workers, intellectuals and students to trigger a political tsunami which will wipe away the government.
''Farmers, workers, students and intellectuals should come together to caution the government that if they were uprooted from their land in the name of development, they will dethrone the government through a political tsunami,'' said Mr Singh.
The former PM and national president of the Kisan Manch further said that the farmers would sell their land at their own will and not under pressure from the government which was being guided by the cause of the capitalists.
Mr Singh also reiterated the demand for a national waiver of agricultural loans to address the plight of farmers compelled to commit suicide under the debt burden.
Addressing the 'Maha Kisan' rally, CPI leader A B Bardhan said development cannot come at the cost of farmers. He termed the efforts of the government to develop a hi-tech city on fertile land in 11 villages as attempts to revive the abolished feudal system.
The CPI leader went on to caution the Mulayam Singh government in UP that if the land of farmers was acquired to please capitalists, one and all including workers, farmers and students will join forces to dethrone the government.
Jan Morcha leader Raj Babbar joining chorus with the senior leaders urged the electorate to offer a ''political slap'' on the faces of those who were hell-bent at driving the farmers away from their fertile land.
The rally was also addressed by All India Democractic Women Association (AIDWA) president Subhasini Ali, CPI(M) central committee member Suneet Chopra and CPI(M-L) state secretary Akhilendra Pratap Singh.
