Two men arrested by Narcotics Control Bureau sleuths

Ahmedabad, Oct 29 (UNI) The Gujarat Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) today said that they have arrested two employees from two different pharmaceutical companies here for supplying banned substances to non-resident Indians based in the US.

The house of the marketing manager of Don Pharmaceuticals Inc., Mr Samuel was raided and 771 tablets of Alfazolm and 500 tablets of Diazapam were seized from him on Thursday.

In another raid at the office premises of Thrifty Solution Pvt Ltd, Mr Umesh Prabhudas Patel was arrested for being in possession of 1,910 Alfazolm tablets.

The NCB thus seized a total of 3,181 tablets, officials said.

Both the men were produced yesterday before the magistrate and have been remanded to four days police custody.

The drugs were being ordered by email and was despatched by post, NCB officials disclosed.

Since they were sending the drugs to the US, the anti-narcotics agencies of two US states, Chicago and Maxcoicone were in touch with their Gujarat counterparts, officials explained.

Mr Girish Rai, an NRI, is alleged to have ordered the drugs and the US police are in search of him. The NCB is also searching for a lady employee of one of the companies, Ms Sangitha Bhatia who is at large, they added.
