Subramaniam sworn in Chennai Mayor
Chennai, Oct 29 (UNI) Mr M Subramaniam of the ruling DMK was today sworn-in as the 46th Mayor of Chennai Corporation.
Corporation Commissioner M P Vijayakumar administered the pledge to Mr Subramaniam, who was elected unopposed to the post.
Following this, former Mayor and Local Administration Minister M K Stalin presented him the Mayor's customary robes including the sceptre, gown and a 100 sovereign gold chain and made him to sit on the official chair.
DMK candidate and 25th ward councillor R Sathyabama was elected unanimously as the Deputy Mayor.
The newly-elected Mayor and Deputy Mayor were greeted by Union Ministers Dayanidhi Maran and T R Baalu and State Information Minister Parithi Ilamvazhuthi.
Mr Subramaniam told reporters that he would accord priority for making Chennai city clean and congestion-free.
More bridges would be constructed to address traffic problems and steps would be taken to improve education and health infrastructure of the city, he added.
Later, Mr Subramaniam and Ms Sathyabama called on Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi at Anna Arivalayam and received his blessings.
