Imphal, Oct 29 (UNI) The Manipur Samajwadi Party has charged the the Okram Ibobi government with failure to provide essential items to the people of the state.

General Secretary of the party C H Premchandra said instead of supplying the essential items to the people, the items were sold in the black market.

''Due to erratic power supply in the state, people required kerosene but the government failed to distribute it. Now it is sold in the black market at the rate of Rs 35 per litre,'' he alleged adding that due to inability to provide security to trucks while passing through Nagaland, none of the trucks were bringing in petrol and gas. Hence, petrol was sold at Rs 65 per litre and gas at Rs 600 to 1000 per cylinder.

He further said the government has not formulated a policy during the past five years to ensure that the essential items reach the public in time.

The problem was aggravated by an economic blockade on the National Highways. The committee has demanded introduction of the die in harness scheme and charged the government of effecting the scheme to whomsoever it wants arbitrarily.

Meanwhile, Thoubal Deputy Commissioner Vaiphei said discussions were held with SDOs, Pradhans ,Zilla Parishad members, about public mobile/open sale of PDS to the public. Essential items would be distributed at seven police stations on October 30.
