Paddy arrival touches new high in Haryana mandis

Chandigarh, Oct 29 (UNI) The arrival of paddy in Haryana mandis has touched a new high of 28.96 lakh metric tonnes during the current kharif season so far as against 26.95 lakh metric tonnes during corresponding period last year.

Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan today said that out of the total paddy arrival, 24.10 lakh metric tonnes was leviable and 4.85 lakh metric tonnes basmati and other superior quality, whereas during last season the leviable paddy was 23.3 lakh metric tonnes and basmati and other varieties was 3.5 lakh metric tonnes.

He said that out of the total paddy arrival, over 18.18 lakh metric tonnes of paddy had been procured by six government agencies at the Minimum Support Price and the remaining 10.78 lakh metric tonnes had been purchased by the private millers and traders, which included 5.92 lakh metric tonnes of leviable and 4.85 lakh metric tonnes of non-leviable paddy.

Mr Chander Mohan said that Hafed had procured 7.98 lakh metric tonnes of paddy, followed by Food and Supplies Department with 5.49 lakh metric tonnes, Haryana Agro-Industries Corporation with about 2.16 lakh metric tonnes, Confed with about 1.50 lakh metric tonnes, Haryana Warehousing Corporation with 91,906 metric tonnes and Food Corporation of India with 10,532 metric tonnes.

He said that Kurukshetra was leading with about 6.22 lakh metric tonnes of paddy arrival, followed by Fatehabad with 4.47 lakh metric tonnes, Karnal with about 4.35 lakh metric tonnes, Kaithal with 3.94 lakh metric tonnes and Ambala with 2.31 lakh metric tonnes.

He said that the state has also delivered 83,554 metric tonnes of rice to the Central Pool so far, as against 58,883 metric tonnes of rice delivered during corresponding period last year.
