Chennai, Oct 29 (UNI) In an apparent sign of cracks within the ruling DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance in Tamil Nadu, the alliance partners -- Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), CPI and the CPI(M)-- have expressed their displeasure over "violation of alliance dharma" by the DMK, while Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi has advised them to resolve the differences through talks instead of going public with it.

The three DPA allies alleged that DMK partymen had violated coalition dharma during the just-concluded election for the posts of chairpersons in local bodies. The DMK men entered the fray even in the seats earmarked for the allies and defeated the candidates of alliance parties, they charged.

The PMK even released a list of local bodies where its candidates were defeated by the DMK.

In a rejoinder, Mr Karunanidhi said in a seven-page statement that the DMK would never commit mistakes against the alliance dharma and victory.

"If one or two persons belonging to any party have committed mistakes in the elections, it should be resolved through talks. It is not good to sow hatred between the cadre of two parties by issuing statement that DMK has defeated the allies," he said.

The Chief Minister said he was offering the explanation as some newspapers would attempt to drive a wedge between the two parties based on the PMK's statement. "I have no intention, whatsoever, to criticise the alliance parties," he added.
