Mild intensity earthquake in Kerala village

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 29: A minor earth quake hit Poruvazhi village at Kunnathur taluk in Kollam district of Kerala today.

An official release issued by the office of the Revenue Minister said at least eight houses were damaged in the quake.

Meanwhile, about 1,220 families in Kollam and 259 families in Thiruvananthapuram district were shifted to relief camps after North East Monsoon intensified during the past 24 hours.

Official sources said as many as 27 relief camps were opened in Kollam and seven in Thiruvananthapuram.

Several low lying areas in the southern parts of the state were inundated due to heavy rainfall. During the past 24 hours, Varkala recording 13 cm rain, followed by Thiruvananthapuram city-seven cm, Karippur, Perinthalmanna and Kottayam -six cm each and Alappuzha - four cm.
