Maoists extend ceasefire by three months

Kathmandu, Oct 29 (UNI) Communist Party of Nepal (CPN)-Maoist has said it has extended the ceasefire by another three months from today in view of the positive peace talks with the multy-party alliance.

''Our party has decided to extend the ceasefire by another three months with a view to creating an environment conducive to announce the date for the constituent assembly elections by making the talks a success,'' Maoist Chief Prachanda, in a statement isued here said.

Maoists have been declaring a ceasefire for the last one year, after making an agreement with the seven-party government to end the autocratic rule of the King.

The rebels participated in the peaceful demonstrations launched by the seven parties that forced the King to restore Parliament in May this year.

More than 13,000 people have been killed in insurgency-related incidents since 1996.
