Manjeet Toppo strikes 4, Jashpur boys beat Rai team in Nehru hockey

New Delhi, Oct 29 (UNI) Manjeet Toppo showed his penchant for scoring by slamming in four goals as Government Boys High School, Jashpur (Chhattisgarh) spanked Motilal Nehru School of Sports, Rai 6-2 in a group match of the 24th ONGC-Nehru Sub-Junior Hockey Tournament here today.

Once Toppo opened the account for his side in the very first minute, there was no looking back for the Chhattisgarh boys, who led 4-1 at half time.

Apart from Toppo's four goals, the winners also scored through Dilip Kumar and Gulshan Toppo, while the Rai team reduced margin through Arun and Anil Kumar.

In another group match, Town High School, Sundergarh, after 1-1 at half time, slammed five second half goals to thrash Sarvodaya Co-Ed Senior Secondary School, Singhu 6-2.

For the winners, Xavier Ekka struck a brace, while Ignacis Toppo, Ernes Surin, Anthony Burh and Ranju Minz chipped in with one goal each.

The other match of the day was closely fought with SS High School, Khunti (Jharkhand) eventually getting the better of RM Senior Secondary School, Nangloi 2-1, after leading 1-0 at half time.

Arbind and Mirdosh scored for the Jharkhand siude, while Ishu was the lone goal-getter for the losers.
