Agartala, Oct 29: Indian (formerly known as Indian Airlines) has decided to withdraw plans of operating Airbus-A-319 in the Agartala-Kolkata route.

State Transport Minister Manik Dey has already send a fax message to the Union Aviation Minister Praful Patel and Indian Chairman cum Managing Director(CMD) Biswapaty Trivedi, expressing his displeasure at the decision.

Officials said Indian decided to introduce Airbus facilities in this route after constant demand from the state government.

The existing Boeing flights operating in this route by both Indian and Alliance Air are in dilapidated condition causing inconvenience to the people.

Air connectivity is the life line for this hilly state.

Train connectivity, which was scheduled to open in March next year, has been postponed to December, 2007. The National Highway (NH-44) connecting Agartala with the rest of the country is also of single lane and prone to insurgency attacks.
