Heavy rain lashes Yanam

Puducherry, Oct 29 (UNI) Heavy rain lashed the Yanam region of the Union Territory today under the influence of the low pressure in the Bay.

According to Revenue Department sources here, Yanam received 24 cm rainfall in the last 12 hrs inundating several areas and submerging acres of paddy crops.

As many as 500 persons were evacuated to safer places and 1,500 food packets distributed, the sources added.

Meanwhile, Coast Guard personnel had rescued three of the four fishermen reported missing from Karaikal region yesterday and search is on for the fourth one, the sources added.
