Akbar remanded in judicial custody till Nov 10

Kochi, Oct 29 (UNI) Akbar Raj, arrested for sending email messages threatening President A P J Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was tonight remanded in judicial custody till November 10.

The accused was produced before Ernakulam First Class Magistrate II. The police had given an application seeking police custody of the accused.

Akbar, hailing from Cherthala in Alappuzha district, was arrested last night for sending 'malicious email' to top officials with a motive to trap a girl, whom he met in the Internet chatroom.

Earlier, a police team headed by Central Police Station CI G Venu took Akbar to the internet cafe from where he had sent the mails to collect evidence relating to the incident.

Akbar was also taken to the private firm where he worked as a hardware instructor.

The e-mails, to about 20 officials, including CBI Director, Delhi Police Commisioner and several SPs of the state, were received on October 27 following which police registered two suo motu cases under IPC section 506 for sedation and section 120 for threatening President and Prime Minister.
