1993 blast trials to restart on Oct 30 after break

Mumbai, Oct 29: The designated TADA court is likely to decide the fate of filmstar Sanjay Dutt and 48 others accused in the March 12, 1993 serial blasts case, in the next couple of weeks.

Judge P D Kode, who is conducting the trials, has decided the fate of 74 accused, of whom 55 people have been convicted and 19 others acquitted in the serial blasts case. Those pronounced guilty include members of the Memon family.

In all, 123 accused are facing trial in the case. The trial of gangster Abu Salem, who was extradited from Portugal, his associate Riyaz Siddiqui and Ejaz Pathan has been separated.

Among those whose fate are to be decided include Sanjay Dutt, his friends and customs officials S N Thapa, Sultan Sayyed and R K Singh, the group that threw grenades at Mahim and some of the accused involved in the Raigad arms landing.

The fate of Moin Qureshi, which the defence has challenged, saying that he was a juvenile when the incident took place, would also be decided.
