18th meeting of Montreal Protocol
New Delhi, Oct 29 (UNI) The 18th meeting of Montreal Protocol on substances that deplete the ozone layer begins here tomorrow.
The treaty came into force on January 1, 1999. Since then, it has undergone five revisions.
The pact is structured around several groups of halogenated hydrocarbons that have been shown to play a role in ozone depletion.
A total of 189 countries have become party to the Montreal Protocol.
The meeting is divided in two parts: a preparatory segment beginning tomorrow and a high-level segment from November 2.
