Wealth case against Jayalalithaa adjourned to Nov 25

Bangalore, Oct 28 (UNI) The Special court hearing the 'Disproportionate asset case' against former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Ms Jayalalithaa and four others today adjourned the proceedings to November 25 as the stay granted by the Supreme court has not been vacated yet.

When the matter came up before the Special Court, Judge A T Manoli adjourned the proceedings to November 25 after consulting the special public prosecutor B V Acharya, who also sought to adjourn the case till November as the apex court which had granted stay on the proceedings was yet to decide the case.

The counsel for the all the five accused in the Disproportionate asset case, Shanmuga Sundaram, however, sought the court to adjourn the case till December as the matter was now before the Supreme Court. However, the Public Prosecutor informed the judge that the Supreme Court had issued notices to the concerned and the matter was likely to come up next month.

Tamil Nadu Finance Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) general-secretary K Anbalagan, had challenged the special court's decision to club two seperate dispraportionate wealth case into one involving Ms Jayalalithaa and four others and stay was granted for the same. The matter was now pending before the apex court for the disposal of the petition which is expected to come up before it next month.

None of the accused were present in the court during the proceedings when the Judge adjourned the case till November 25.
