Sri Lankan Parliamentary Committee team visits Mysore

Mysore, Oct 28 (UNI) A Sri Lankan Parliamentary Committee team visited the city to study functioning of the local bodies in Karnataka and interacted with the elected members and the officials here today.

The meeting was organised at the Abdul Nazeer Sab State Institute of Rural Development (ANSSIRD) in which the all-party delegation, comprising 14 lawmakers took part. The team that included two ministers, Prof Tissa Vitharana and Prof Wiswa Warnapala, was led by Sri Lankan High Commissioner to India Satendar Kumar.

Director General of ANSSIRD, Surajana, explained how the Institute had trained 90,000 Gram Panchayat members through a satellite based training programme. The representatives also shared their experiences on the running of the local bodies in their villages.

Before arriving to Mysore, the delegation held a meeting with the Union Minister for Panchayatraj Mani Shankar Iyer in New Delhi. The team would proceed to Kochi and visit the Kerala Institute of Local Bodies tomorrow.
