Remakes cannot outsmart originals: Jaya Prada

Varanasi, Oct 28 (UNI) South Indian Bollywood beauty turned Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Prada today said remakes can never even dream of outsmarting Bollywood classics.

''Agreed it is the era of remakes in Bollywood, but the remakes can never outsmart the original classics which have inspired them,'' the Lok Sabha MP from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh told newspersons after her brief address at an election rally here this afternoon.

''Original is original and remake can never take their place,'' she quipped.

She, however, admitted that production of remakes should not be stopped as it has created a niche for itself on the box office.

Earlier, addressing an election rally in supprt of party candidates in local bodies poll, Ms Jaya Prada claimed only the SP could develop Varanasi as a ''world heritage city'' without tampering with the cultural hallmark of the ancient city.

She appealed the electorate to compare the performance of Mulayam Singh government with the other governments led by BJP, BSP and Congress in UP, before casting their vote in the civic election slated for October 31 in Varanasi.

Terming the SP-led government in UP as ''incredible,'' she praised the Kanya Vidyadhan and Unemployement Allowance introduced by the government.

Meanwhile, as the glamorous politician was leaving the venue at Sanatan Dharam College, some mediapersons belonging to TV channels were manhandled by security guards, when the TV scribes tried to get close to Ms Jaya Prada.
